How Telegram login codes are delivered — Best Virtual Number for Telegram
Telegram may send a login code in the app to a logged-in device, by SMS or by call, so a temporary number matters most at first sign-up.
The usual delivery routes
Telegram chooses how to send a login code. Widely documented practice is that it sends the code in the app first when another device is already logged in. On a first sign-up with no active session, it usually sends an SMS. In some cases it offers a call or asks for an email address instead.
The route can vary by country, app version and account history. Telegram can change it without notice.
For a new account on a virtual number, the SMS route is the one that matters. VoIPStore sells numbers for one-time SMS verification. Its catalog is built around receiving that text. If Telegram offers only a call, confirm on VoIPStore's official site whether that route is covered.
What happens after the number expires
A one-time number is reserved only long enough to receive the code. VoIPStore's site says this is typically up to about 20 minutes. After that, assume the number is no longer available to you.
Later logins on a new device usually send the code to the app on a device that is still logged in. That only works if you keep a session open. If every session ends, Telegram may send an SMS to a number you no longer control.
- Keep at least one device logged in.
- Turn on two-step verification with a recovery email.
- If you need lasting access, consider a rental or move the account to a number you keep, using Telegram's change number setting.
An illustrative check
Test how codes reach you before you depend on the account.
- After sign-up, install Telegram on a second device and request a login code.
- Record where the code appears: in the app, by SMS or by call.
- Note whether Telegram asks for your two-step password after the code.
- End the second device's session from the first one under active sessions.
Write down the result with the date and app version, because routes change. If the code went only by SMS, treat the account as at risk and plan for lasting access. This is a proposed check, not a reported VoIPStore test. For current terms and the reservation window, see VoIPStore's official site.
